Writing
Matthew originally found a career in digital advocacy because of his strength as a writer. He had a weekly column in the Woonsocket Call, a local print newspaper in Woonsocket, RI, in 2009-2010, and has written for online opinion publications. In recent years, Matthew’s professional writing has been limited mainly to short-form pieces, with a focus on writing for email lists and blogs. Some highlights are included here.

Livestream Production
Matthew was one of four Technical Directors for the HONK! United virtual festival, which brought bands from all seven continents (including Antartica!) together for a livestreamed music festival. He ran pre-recorded videos and live segments through OBS for approximately 15 hours of the 30-hour live festival, and ensured that MCs were prepared to go live on their cues.
Matthew operated OBS for this experimental art piece, “How to Effervesce in a Public, Private Space with Strangers,” as part of the Grid: Exposure festival. The production required capturing footage from Zoom breakout rooms and broadcasting using OBS’s Virtual Camera feature.
Caring Across Generations hosted a Congressional Briefing featuring Representatives Joaquin Castro and Deb Haaland, organizer Ai-jen Poo, caregivers, and policy experts. Behind the scenes, Matthew was the Zoom stage manager, and ensured that the program streamed seamlessly to the organization’s Facebook page.
Video Editing
Matthew created this highlight video after the Grassroots Movement for Childcare’s 2020 virtual Assembly for Childcare and Early Education. Cut together from the Zoom footage from the event, the highlight video gives a sense of the overall spirit of the event. Matthew also provided Zoom stage management during the event.
Early in the pandemic, Matthew coordinated more than 40 College of the Holy Cross marching band alumni to create this video of a favorite school song, as a tribute to the Class of 2020. As the new semester starts with students still at home, Matthew is continuing to work with the college pep band to produce a virtual concert in the fall.
Website Design
The Disruption Project is a group of activists who needed a website to serve as a home for the lessons they’ve learned in years of organizing. This site is built on a Squarespace template and makes it possible for the Disruption Project team to share their own content and links to articles with valuable information.
A movement of seniors, people with disabilities, family caregivers, and domestic and home care workers from all across the state, New York Caring Majority needed an easy-to-navigate place for members to take political action. This site features embedded forms, so action-takers don’t need to navigate away to sign petitions or write to their elected officials.
